The region supplies a substantial proportion of the State's fresh fruit and vegetables, and exports fresh produce interstate and overseas. Fruit and vegetable production is the major contributor to Stanthorpe's economy. More than forty wineries provide cellar-door sales throughout the region, and the current growth in wine production in Queensland is reflected in expanding areas of the region being planted as vineyards.

Extensive areas of National Park along the southern border areas of the region, containing the famed Girraween and Sundown National Parks, are added attractions for those who appreciate the rugged natural landscape.
